Access to Care without a Prescription

In 2014, California Law allowed for direct access to physical therapy care without having to see a physician beforehand. Unfortunately not all insurance providers have recognized this law and may still require a prescription from your doctor in advance of treatment. You should contact your insurance provider, in advance of care, to determine their specific policy. If you are paying for your care without accessing your insurance benefits (cash based) then direct access always applies.

The limitations to the direct access law include being limited to 12 visits or 45 calendar days of care, whichever occurs first. To continue with care beyond these limits you will need to see a licensed physician, in person, to receive a diagnosis and/or prescription.
